The Archives of Falconry
Karl-Heinz Gersmann Library

Boise, ID

This renovation to the existing Archives of Falconry display room was a much needed upgrade, including renovated offices, display room, library display vault, and archival workrooms. With the addition of the Karl-Heinz Gerschnmann collection the Idaho Archives of Falconry is now houses the largest collection of falconry manuscripts in the world. This project was designed to highlight the new collection and to emphasize the role of falconry throughout the years from Genghis Khan to to the modern day recreational falconers.

A large glass wall immerses the visitor in the library while maintaining the strict temperature and moisture control measures needed for ancient manuscripts. The objective of the display was to allow the visitor to feel like they are stepping back in time to the library of a falconer and to educate them as to the role of falconry in the past and that continues today with conservation and recreation. Protecting the wild habitats of the falcons around the world.
